Our Pastors

Rev. Michael L. Lindvall
Reverend Lindvall was installed as the 13th Pastor of The Brick Presbyterian Church in the fall of 2002. He was raised in small-town Minnesota and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. A graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and Princeton Theological Seminary, he currently serves as the pastor of the Brick Presbyterian Church in the City of New York. He has previously served as pastor to congregations in Ann Arbor, Michigan and Northport, Long Island.

Reverend Lindvall is also a writer whose essays, book reviews, sermons and fiction appear in a variety of church-related and secular periodicals. He has written two novels, The Good News from North Haven, and Leaving North Haven, both published by Crossroad/Carlisle Books, an imprint of Herder and Herder. A volume of accessible theology entitled The Christian Life: A Geography of God, was recently released by Geneva Press.

Michael is married to Terri Vaun Smith, an artist and homemaker. He and Terri have three children - Madeline, an assistant producer for a cable television channel, Benjamin, recent graduate of Hope College in Holland, Michigan, and Grace, a junior at the Hewitt School in New York City. The Lindvalls make their home in Manhattan.

Rev. Douglas T. King
Reverend King serves The Brick Presbyterian Church as Senior Associate Pastor for Mission Outreach and Pastoral Care. He grew up on the North Shore of Long Island in East Setauket and attended Stony Brook University, where he studied philosophy and wrote for several student publications. Following his graduation from college, he spent a year in mission work with political refugees from Central America in Tijuana, Mexico and San Diego, California. Doug attended Princeton Theological Seminary from 1990 through 1993. During his time at Princeton he had the opportunity to serve congregations in Trenton, New Jersey and Brooklyn, New York. Following seminary, Doug served as the outreach intern for Myers Park Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, North Carolina. In 1994, he accepted a call to be an Associate Pastor at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Buffalo, New York. During his tenure at Westminster, he met Marta Rummenie, a member of the Westminster staff who worked with children and youth. They were married in the spring of 2001 with over five hundred church members in attendance. Doug is the cook of the family, and Marta is the handy one, always ready with the tool belt.

Rev. Christiane M. Lang
Reverend Lang, who serves as Associate Pastor of Education and Discipleship, began at The Brick Church in July of 2005 and was ordained and installed on October 23, 2005. In addition to her regular pastoral duties, Christy is responsible for education programs for children, youth, and adults. Christy comes to New York City from Princeton, New Jersey, where she received Masters Degrees in Divinity and Christian Education at Princeton Theological Seminary. She grew up in Eastern Washington State and graduated from Whitworth University, where she studied Religion, Spanish, and Speech Communications. She moved to Seattle after college and served as a youth director at University Presbyterian Church until she moved to Princeton to attend seminary. While in seminary, she worked as an Assistant Chaplain at Monroe Village Retirement Community and served as the Volunteer Coordinator with the Agape Community Meal program in Elizabeth, New Jersey, which is sponsored by the Westfield Presbyterian Church. She also edited the seminary journal for literature and the arts, served on student government, worked as a copy editor with a Princeton company, volunteered at Nassau Presbyterian Church, and played intramural frisbee. Christy has a wonderful community of friends on the East Coast and maintains close contact with her parents and three siblings, who are spread throughout Washington, Oregon, Colorado, and Vancouver, British Columbia. She shares her home with a cat named Margaret, who plays fetch and joyfully breaks everything. Christy is an avid reader, writer, music lover, and outdoorswoman. She is enthusiastic about helping people learn about the Christian faith, the Presbyterian tradition, and the Brick Church.
