The Rev. Rebekah Hutto serves as the Brick Church's Associate Pastor for Christian Education and Discipleship. Hutto hails from Greenville, S.C., and she graduated from Wofford College in 2002 with a B.S. in Psychology. She completed her Master of Divinity degree at Duke University Divinity School in 2006, and during seminary interned with First Presbyterian Church in Durham, N.C.
In 2007, Hutto received her first call to serve as Associate Pastor of Christian Education at Mt. Bethel Presbyterian Church in Durham. While serving at Mt. Bethel, she worked with five local congregations each summer to write the curriculum for their ecumenical Vacation Bible School. She has a passion for storytelling and loves teaching all ages hoping to make Christian Education relevant to a wide range of people, regardless of where they are in their spiritual formation.
Before serving at Mt. Bethel Presbyterian Church, Hutto worked in Pulpit Supply for New Hope Presbytery while substitute teaching in Vance County. While at Duke University Divinity School, she served as a chaplain for the Duke University Medical Center and a clinical staff specialist for the Duke University Psychology Department.
Hutto’s husband, B.J., is an ordained Baptist Minister and is currently completing his Ph.D. in theological ethics, at-distance, at the University of Aberdeen (Scotland). Rebekah, B.J., and their daughter, Hannah Ruth, are excited to be in ministry at The Brick Church and thrilled to live in New York. Both Rebekah and B.J. are pleased to be a part of The Brick Church community, a church home that will nurture and guide their daughter as she grows in her faith and support them as a family.
