Lent is the season of renewal and rebirth. To acknowledge this time of reflection and growth, we hold an annual dinner of simple soup and bread and plant seeds to demonstrate that renewal for our children. Over the course of the season, children and adults alike can watch their seeds grow from dormancy to life.
Bible Presentation Sunday- Third Grade
Sunday, February 24, during 11:00 a.m. Worship; Reception to follow in the Living Room
Every year, The Brick Church Sunday School Committee presents Bibles to third graders. One of the most significant actions we take as a church is to give our children Bibles. As Christians of the reformed tradition, we believe that the Bible is the witness to the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. As God''s word to us, the Bible forms our life together and guides our belief and actions. For this reason, we share its stories and message with our children, and when they are old enough, we, the church, give them their own copy of the Bible to read.
A reception for the 3rd graders will be held in the Living Room following the presentation service and will include lunch and a short Bible class.
Palm Sunday
Sunday, March 24, 11:00 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.
Palm Sunday is the Sunday before Easter, when Christians commemorate Jesus' entry into Jerusalem. On Palm Sunday, children participate in three important events:
1. Palm Sunday Processional:
All children are invited to join in the traditional Palm Sunday processional at the 11 a.m. worship service. Parents and children come to the Chapel of The Reformed Faith at 10:40 a.m. to receive palms, practice our music, and then lead the processional down the center aisle of the sanctuary. Infants in arms are welcome.
2. Palm Sunday Project:
After the Palm Sunday processional and children's message in the worship service, children go to Watson Hall for the Palm Sunday service project. They make a variety of crafts and projects to take home or to give away.
3. One Great Hour of Sharing Offering:
Each year, the Sunday Church School children receive colorful fish banks for their One Great Hour of Sharing offering. Children are asked to return their fish banks on Palm Sunday in the church service or to bring them to Sunday School. The offering benefits people around the world whose lives have been shattered by disaster and also communities facing hunger, disease, unemployment, and environmental degradation.
Communion Class for Children and Parents Fall Date TBD
For all children, 1st grade and older, who would like to know more about the sacrament of communion and experience the fellowship of being welcomed at the table, Rev. Rebekah Hutto will hold a class after worship. Lunch will be served and the class will last until 2pm. Parents are invited to attend so that the whole family can learn about the sacraments.
Youth Sunday
Sunday, April 28, 11:00 a.m. Worship
On Youth Sunday, the members of the eighth grade Confirmation class lead worship at The Brick Church.
