Youth Friday Night Dinner Program

On the first and third Friday of each month, Brick Church youth and friends host a dinner for residents from the Neighborhood Coalition for Shelter's (NCS) 81st Street residence. Youth cook and serve dinner and then sit down to a meal with our guests. We meet at 5:00 p.m. in the Watson Hall Kitchen and are finished by 7:45 p.m. Youth can also receive Community Service credit for volunteering with the Friday Night Dinner Program. If you would like to participate, please contact Adam Gorman.

About NCS
Located on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, NCS was founded in 1981 by religious and civic organizations who were concerned about the growing problem of homelessness in the neighborhood. This community came together to help the homeless people on its streets by establishing soup kitchens serving lunch and dinner daily, operating an information and referral program in a local church, and opening a women’s shelter.

NCS was formally incorporated in 1982, when it began its search for a building to provide permanent housing to homeless men and women. Today the NCS 81st Street Residence houses men and women who are gaining personal and financial independence and becoming active members in the community once again. It serves as a long-term, supportive housing facility for people who have come through the Coalition’s Shelter Program. Formerly homeless, the residents live independently, but, like all of us, need some support and tender loving care.
