From the Pastor - A Lenten Reminder

“What’s the matter, that you have such a February face, so full of frost, of storm, of cloudiness?”
-Much Ado about Nothing, William Shakespeare

Yes, even the great bard himself gave the month of February a hard time. I cannot say I blame him. The novelty of winter has completely worn off. February’s sister December brings us the excitement and lights of Christmas. January gets some of us out on the slopes for skiing and snowboarding. But February is just one day of winter after another with no sign of spring to be found. And, to top it all off, we find ourselves entering into the liturgical season of Lent, a time of repentance.

Officer Nominations This Spring

The important process of identifying those whom God is calling to be leaders in our church has started and your participation is crucial. The All-Church Nominating Committee (ACNC) asks the congregation to recommend church members for the positions of elder, deacon and trustee, as well as for next year’s nominating committee. Please prayerfully consider recommending church members you know as fellow worshippers, committee members or friends for nomination to these positions. Criteria to be considered include personal characteristics such as dedication, judgment and an ability to work with others; time and willingness to serve; and commitment to the church, including regular attendance at Sunday worship. You can find recommendation forms at the reception desk or online.

Lent, which starts this year on Feb. 17 (Ash Wednesday), is a season of reflection, confession and preparation for the celebration of Resurrection. Parents: What you say and do matters

Major studies of the past two decades have shown that the single most important social factor on children’s religious and spiritual development is not friends, youth group, or school, but parents. Teenage religious commitment is also tied more closely to parents’ habits than to any other factor.

Bible Studies

All are welcome to join the men’s and women’s Bible studies. These studies are intended to help members and friends learn more about the Bible, and no expertise is necessary. The groups explore and discuss the Biblical text and its meaning for our lives, and we get to know one another in the process. Participants for both men’s and women’s studies are encouraged to bring their own Bibles, though Bibles will be available at the meetings.
