Opportunities for advancement were limited for African Americans living in the United States during the Jim Crow era.  But Presbyterian missionary William Sheppard and sailor Matthew Henson pursued exciting careers abroad that led to globally significant discoveries.  Find out more about these two pioneering explorers as U.S. historian and Brick Church member Amanda Bellows leads us through their remarkable journeys.
