Chancel Choir and Orchestra, Dietrich Buxtehude: Membra Jesu nostri
March 7 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm EST
FreeDietrich Buxtehude described Membra Jesu nostri as a “sung devotion” to the Body of Christ. Like a cinematic director focusing a camera, Buxtehude illuminates in music the different parts of Jesus’ body on the Cross: feet, knees, hands, side, breast, heart, and face. The solos and choruses he wrote for Membra Jesu nostri contain some of the most exquisite music of the Baroque.
As our Lenten sermon series at Brick explores the Body of Christ, our music and arts programming takes up the same theme. In this special worship service, the Chancel Choir and Orchestra, featuring some of New York City’s leading singers and instrumentalists, will bring this delicate and beautiful oratorio to life.
