Chancel Choir: The Crucifixion by John Stainer
April 7 @ 12:15 pm - 2:00 pm EDT
FreeThe Brick Church Chancel Choir will offer its 99th performance of John Stainer’s Lenten choral meditation, The Crucifixion. Premiered in 1887, Stainer’s oratorio tells the story of Good Friday with dramatic solos, choruses, and hymns sung by the entire congregation. The enduring popularity of The Crucifixion testifies to Stainer’s understanding in painting the text with music both thoughtful and dramatic, most famously in his sublime unaccompanied setting of “God So Loved The World.”
Jeffrey Taveras, tenor
Nathaniel Sullivan, baritone
Alistair Reid, organ
