Fact and Fiction in the Bible
December 4, 2016 @ 9:45 am - 10:45 am EST

Rev. Dr. Gordon Graham presents Fact and Fiction in the Bible. Can we learn from fiction as well as fact? If so, how? This is a topic that philosophers have often discussed, sometimes intensively. It takes on special interest when we turn to the Bible, because claims about its historicity have dominated the issue of its authority. In this talk, insights from the philosophy of literature are used to throw new light on the question of truth in the Bible. Gordon Graham is currently the Henry Luce III Professor of Philosophy and the Arts at Princeton Theological Seminary. Prior to taking this post in 2006, he taught philosophy in Scotland at the University of St Andrews from 1975-95, and at the University of Aberdeen from 1996-2006. He has published on a wide range of philosophical topics relating to art, education, ethics, politics, religion, and technology.
