Food Insecurity in our Neighborhood
May 11, 2022 @ 8:00 am - 9:00 am EDT
FreePlease join us for a breakfast discussion in the Living Room as Rev. Jordan Tarwater presents “Food Insecurity in our Neighborhood.”
Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, rates of food insecurity have risen such that nearly 25% of New Yorkers are unsure if they will be able to provide enough weekly food for their families. Rev. Tarwater spends each and every day addressing this crisis through his work as the Executive Director of the Urban Outreach Center of NYC, a long standing Brick Church Mission Partner (f/k/a Jan Hus). Rev. Tarwater will discuss this crisis of hunger among our neighbors and the Urban Outreach Center of NYC’s work to end the hunger gap in East Harlem and on the Upper East Side. We will also explore the practical steps people of faith can take to make a change right here in our neighborhood.
The Rev. Jordan Tarwater is a Presbyterian Church (USA) minister and nonprofit executive. As Executive Director of the Urban Outreach Center of NYC, he leads an innovative team with a big vision: to end the hunger gap in East Harlem and the Upper East Side. The UOCNYC served 1.2 million meals worth of food in 2021 to more than 50,000 food-insecure neighbors. Rev. Tarwater also serves as the Jan Orr- Harter Minister of Social Justice at Avenue Church NYC.
