Speaker Series – Dr. James E. Wright presents America’s Longest War and its Veterans
Thursday, June 3 at 5 p.m.
Please join us for a discussion with Dr. James E. Wright offering his unique perspective on America’s recent wars and those who fought them.
Dr. Wright is a renowned American historian and veteran of the United States Marine Corps who served in the Korean War. Dr. Wright spent his entire career at Dartmouth, first as a member of the history department and then in roles including Dean of Faculty, Provost, and President. As President of Dartmouth, Wright traveled extensively and made it a point whenever he was near a VA hospital to visit wounded veterans and encourage them to pursue their education. Many of those veterans kept in touch, and a few attended Dartmouth. Since he stepped down from the Dartmouth presidency in 2009, Wright has focused on support of veterans and research, writing, and public speaking on matters relating to education and veterans. His scholarly work as a political historian has extended to include military history and questions about American culture and war. Dr. Wright has authored six books including Those Who Have Borne the Battle: A History of America’s Wars and Those Who Fought Them and Enduring Vietnam: An American Generation and its War.
