Rebuilding the Urban Parish: How “Loving Your Neighbor” is a Radical Calling, Now More Than Ever

February 12, 2017 @ 9:45 am - 10:45 am EST

Rev. Chris Lawrence of Church of the Living Hope speaks on Rebuilding the Urban Parish: How “Loving Your Neighbor” is a Radical Calling, Now More Than Ever. The inspiration comes from John 1:14 where the Word of God became flesh and blood and “moved into the neighborhood.” The Church of the Living Hope is one that aims to take the congregation back to its local parish roots, focusing on presence, loyalty and long term intentional commitments to their neighbors. They emphasize mutual common values and public communal life rather than over emphasizing privacy and parallel independent lives. Rev. Lawrence shares his church’s dreams of building an “urban village” and their multiple ways of approaching and expressing this vision. Church of the Living Hope is a new Deacon ministry and also a grant recipient.
