Sunday Church School

Toddlers through 2nd grade will receive weekly lessons to be done as a family this fall. Additionally, a group zoom call will take place the first Sunday of each month at 10 a.m. Teachers for these grades will be asked to sign-up to record a video of themselves reading the weekly Spark Bible story which will be added to the weekly lessons. Additionally, teachers will be asked to sign-up to join the monthly zoom call to help lead a simple craft, story, activity, or song for their grade.

3rd through 7th grade will meet virtually over zoom each week at 10 a.m. for 30 minute lessons. Teachers will sign-up to lead these weekly discussions and will continue to teach in pairs. Kiah and a seminarian will be available prior to lessons for any questions you may have.

Sunday School Registration

Sunday Church School is a thriving ministry at Brick, involving 300 children each year and over 100 adult and youth volunteers! We provide Sunday School for infants through 7th graders. Infants through toddlers may be taken to the nursery on the Youth Floor, where paid sitters and parent volunteers supervise. Children age three through seventh grade attend Sunday School.

Our wonderful Sunday School teachers and volunteers are parents, retired people, single people, and high school students who are members of The Brick Church.

In keeping with the commitment we make to each child at their baptism to raise them in the Christian faith, Sunday Church School is one of the ways we guide and nurture our children. This is a thriving ministry at Brick and one of the largest urban Sunday School programs in the country. From the youngest of ages, we want our children to become familiar with and know the stories of the Bible and God’s love for them. As they grow and become more familiar with the stories of Scripture, we hope to encourage and challenge our children and youth in their faith, helping them to apply the teachings of Scripture to their daily lives. In all of this, we invite our young people to learn the rhythms and seasons of the church year, allowing worship to shape their understanding of the life and ministry of Jesus.

In keeping with these goals, we use Wee Believe early childhood, Spark for preschool children, younger and middle elementary, an Old and New Testament Survey for fourth and fifth grades, and Faithfully Asking Questions for sixth and seventh grade youth. These curricula, in combination with music for our younger children, foster Biblical literacy, spiritual development, and faith application.

The Sunday Church School schedule offers consistent classroom time to all children, while allowing families to worship together and children to participate in Communion.

Regular Sunday School Days

11:00 a.m. – Infants, Toddlers, 2 and 3 year olds begin class and do not attend the worship service.
11:25 a.m. – Children 4 years old through seventh grade go to class after the children’s message during the worship service.

Family Sundays

On Family Sundays, usually the first Sunday of the month, children in first grade and above remain in worship for the entire service. This way they can participate in worship and partake of the Lord’s Supper.
