Good Friday – Stainer’s “The Crucifixion” – ONLINE

Download the Order of Worship HERE

On Good Friday, a service of worship will be held online at 12:15 p.m. to remember the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. For 97 years at The Brick Church, this service has been centered on the singing of Sir John Stainer’s beloved oratorio, The Crucifixion. Premiered in London in 1887, Stainer’s oratorio quickly became a much anticipated Good Friday tradition in England and still holds such a place today. Tuneful and approachable yet powerfully dramatic, this hour long choral work vividly retells the events leading up to Christ’s crucifixion. The service lasts 75 minutes.

Maundy Thursday Worship – ONLINE

All are welcome to join us for our Maundy Thursday service of Tenebrae held online at 7:30 p.m. on April 9. This service marks Jesus Christ’s Last Supper with his disciples and to remember his betrayal, suffering and impending death. It includes a meditation by one of the Brick Church ministers and the traditional service of Tenebrae, which uses the symbol of progressive darkness to mark the betrayal, passion and death of Jesus Christ. After each reading during the Tenebrae service, a choral meditation on the reading is presented. After each choral meditation, lights are progressively extinguished in the Sanctuary. The final reading ends with complete darkness in the Sanctuary and the tolling of the bell 33 times to represent Christ’s death. The Maundy Thursday service is our most somber service of the year and is profoundly moving. This beautiful service is the Holy Week equivalent to our Advent Lessons and Carols service.
