Discerning Welcome
Welcome back Presbyterian minister and author Rev. Dr. Ellen Clark Clemot with a book talk that includes a discussion of her ministry journey from her first sense of call as a Brick Church congregant and Elder on Session, to her decision to pursue ordained ministry and her time as a Pastor. She will share with us her award winning book, Discerning Welcome, that came to being as a result of one of her congregants being arrested by ICE and the heart-warming response of the congregation members to support their long-time friend and his family. Ellen's book is a guide for congregations on discerning ways of welcoming the stranger that follow both the teachings of our Reformed faith tradition and federal laws. Ellen is also a practicing attorney and polity professor at Princeton Seminary. She combines her ministry and law practice in this compelling work.

Ellen Clark Clemot, a former member of Session at Brick, is thrilled to be back as our guest speaker. Ellen left Brick after her Seminary studies and has served as Senior Pastor and Head of Staff in the New York Metro area for over 12 years, including at the Larchmont Avenue Church in Larchmont, New York and the Presbyterian Church of Chatham Township in New Jersey. As a capstone to her law and ministry careers, Ellen has now combined them, teaching church polity at Princeton Theological Seminary as an adjunct professor every spring and representing churches in a boutique New York law firm specializing in affordable housing. Ellen lives in Princeton, New Jersey, with her husband Andre. They spend every vacation visiting their daughters, who were raised at Brick but now live in Europe. Annabelle is a project manager for DPR Construction in Zurich and Amelie lives in Paris working as an environmentalist for Greenly.
